I was pulling for him to succeed so hard. It seemed like he really did want to make changes to the organizational issues in sumo. Perhaps this resignation, which is culturally massive news, will (eventually) force the dark practices to come a little closer to the light of day and the light of the law.

Huh. The sumo chat this most recent basho was convinced that he was being made to fight Bob Sapp for a free win. I don't know anything about the sport, but I know that there were a bunch of people professing the same thing. Maybe he's really bad at MMA.

What is this next basho even going to look like? Hakuhou's out, so we've got a crippled Kisenosato, a normal Kakuryuu and a normal Tochinoshin going for the yuushou. I think someone's on a last-chance oozeki run. Is Kise going to end up killing himself trying to get wins in such a vicious-sounding basho, trying to prove that he can do better than he did in his return basho?
