I've heard nothing but bad things about the Remaster, from the most diehard fans to the people who couldn't care less about the franchise.

Well, my understanding is that people expected more from the Remaster... maybe something like what happened to Shadow of the Colossus. If you have a PC and are into the modding scene, I am sure people have had something not much worse and in many cases much better than the Remaster for years. I only had the PS3 version and gameplay wise hasn't changed that much (one extra bonfire and more multiplayer options which I won't touch as I don't have PS+). It is definitely a personal choice and one I wouldn'try to convince anyone about, but it works for me. It does help the fact I bought it with an Amazon gift voucher though...

Downwell: A ridiculously good game with a dirt cheap price. Never played it on a phone, only on Switch. It's tough, but fair. Love this one.
Enter the Gungeon: Very difficult. Don't be deceived by the cute enemies, they will kick your ass. I think I need to read a walkthrough to get better.
Cuphead: Also difficult, but lovely art style, music, and overall theme.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age: The gaming equivalent of eating a delicious, home-cooked meal.
Games to play soon: CELESTE, Blasphemous.

Got my son a family present (Switch) so will be dabbling with Breath of the Wild and Let's go Eevee (and inevitably Minecraft.)
Looking back I haven't completed many games since I last posted here, but I did complete Kingdom Hearts 1 with my wife, Bloodstained (Platinumed it pretty neat Igavania!) and Symphony of the Night (missing the cheesy PSX dubbing.) I finally caved in and am playing Darkest Dungeon on my laptop (amazing game, just one more run!) and Resident Evil 2 reimagined for the PS4. And kind of started Tales of Vesperia but is stuck on the limbo of half finished JRPGs.

Very chill, atmospheric, and easy to get lost in while exploring. My advice is to build up the stamina meter first, since it gives you so much freedom. And cooking is super important. Expanding your inventory and stocking up on weapons to shatter is fun. I've sunk way too many hours into Darkest Dungeon. It's addictive as hell, but the end game can feel very grindy. For instance, your characters need max armor/weapon upgrades and strong trinkets to survive Champion dungeons/bosses. Otherwise, Champ monsters will turn you into mincemeat. If you have the Steam version, there's a ton of custom classes you can download (for free!), and the artwork is high quality & stylized. I'd recommend them, as well as downloading other quality of life improvements. Haven't played Bloodstained yet, since the Switch version is apparently the worst version, bad frame rates/loading times, bugs. It's slowly being patched. Glad you enjoyed it, though, I will buy it eventually. I'm watching my girlfriend play Ni no Kuni and she absolutely loves it. If you're into JRPGs, you and your wife might enjoy that one, too.

Glad you enjoyed it, though, I will buy it eventually. I'm watching my girlfriend play Ni no Kuni and she absolutely loves it. If you're into JRPGs, you and your wife might enjoy that one, too. I actually Platinumed Ni no Kuni a couple of years ago on PS3. It was an engrossing story and one of the last time until recently I got back into RPGs. It feels difficult to commit over 40 hours to see a story through unlike on my 20s! On the other hand BoTW feels very fresh and reminds me a lot of the original Zelda: lots of wandering around without any guidance and total freedom to mess around. It's lucky I haven't found a counter for how many hours I have already spent on it because it must be indecent. I only did one of the Divine Beasts about 2 weeks ago and since then I have only walked around finding shrines, Korok seeds and opening up the map. I started expanding my stamina wheel after my 15th heart, but mostly I figured if I kept a good stock of stamina recovery food and elixirs I could invest in more hit points. I have been making a point of avoiding guides and walkthroughs unless I am particularly stuck with a shrine, which makes the exploring (the main draw of the game) all the more exciting. It is not a perfect game, but I think it accomplishes everything it intended to. Compared to that, I am looking for every bit of advice for Darkest Dungeon. I know it will be heresy for some but it is the best way for me to enjoy it: as you said, it can be very grindy and RNG has screwed me.over a couple of times in situations I certainly found myself non guilty. Again, I dont5have that kind of time (unless we are talking of a Dark Souls and such.) I have a full roster of level 6 characters with only the Darkest Dungeon to face. I also have the DLCs but haven't activated the Crimson Curse one yet, so there is still a lot of game to cover before I am done with it. I am of two minds about modding the game: it looks interesting but the core game feels balanced into itself and I am not all that hot about tampering with it. Looking forward to DD2 being given an official release date though! Lastly (this post is getting extremely long), Bloodstained is highly recommended for a Metroidvania lover. Only shortcomings are varying degrees of quality among ports (I played it downloaded on my PS4 and it struggled revving up quite a bit, and Switch is a work in progress... which is a shame as it feels like it would be it's perfect home); some skills are obscenely more powerful than others and will make it hard for you to try and change things around (all elemental spells are OP); and there is a fair bit of grinding for skills and ingredients for alchemy. Of course all of that can be post endgame stuff but for a completionist like me, it can be torture. A slightly lower complain is that for old school players it will be too easy in Normal mode (a bit harder than Symphony of the Night) but Hard mode is only more HP and damage for enemies, which in this time and age is not overly exciting. Too many games, too little time...

I've been playing XCOM 2 because I finally have a computer that can run it. Such a good game. This is like a second job, though, I can't believe how much time you can invest.. I've barely scratched the campaign and haven't even tried Multiplayer yet.

I often see XCOM and Darkest Dungeon mentioned in the same sentence as RNGesus fodder. It would be interesting to try if I wasn't buried by backlog (have like 12-15 games to finish/start/rebought to play.)
I got coaxed to buy Hollow Knight (not because it's a bad game, but because it's hard as d*cks and didn't have that kind of time) and finally got the Bluray version of Streets of Rage 4. Both are taking most of my playing time but I was away for 2 weeks and haven't touched them since beginning of July. Both excellent in different ways.

Probably my favorite game of all time, honestly. The soundtrack, ambience, character designs, the combat, it's just perfection. But yes, it's hard as hell and some of the challenges are absurdly difficult. I never finished them all. But I'm excited that you're playing it!
Streets of Rage 4 - very nice choice. I want that one, too, but there's too many damn games to play. I should get it on Steam and we could do Multiplayer sometime. Everything about it looks good, the artwork is on point and I love the fact you can select the older characters/sprites from previous games.

I have already decided I won't be platinuming (?) Hollow Knight due to the ridonkolous difficulty. I really like it but I feel (particularly after seeing what some DLC content expect from you) it is a bit of a shame a good and fair game has to slip to Super Meat Boy or I wanna Be The Guy levels of masochism. Not everyone who buys the game is a hardcore gamer, and gating some of the content behind pro skills makes the drear what Silkson will be like. Alas, I bought Streets of Rage 4 for PS4. Physical version even, as I did want to own a copy of it. I might double down on Steam to support the franchise financially: to bd honest I loved the idea of couch co-OP with my brother or my wife, and I don't have PS+ so wouldn't play online. Now Steam is a different story...
