Do you like great art, coole characters and really good, if ridiculously dark, storyline ? Do you also like updates that come once a year ? Then you'll love Berserk. Latest chapter... From five months ago : www.mangareader.net/berserk/343

Any opinions on the new Berserk anime in terms of its quality? To be honest, the first ep had that Ajin-feel and slightly disappointed - the earlier Berserk series and the movies were significantly better quality.

Why does a great manga get a crappy anime treatment? At least bring back Canna Nobutoshi as Guts!!!!

Its definitely getting better. The Guts vs Serpico fight at the cliff was very well done though!

Other times, the 3D models have this strange and lifeless look to them, and their facial expressions feel robotic. Skull Knight looks quite good, but perhaps that's because they didn't need to make him look human.

At times they look like puppets(facial expressions), other times its like rotoscope but kinda sloppy. Very weird! Skull Knight would always look good though as his design itself is pure badass

its pretty sad really the last few episodes havent been the worst but i have no idea why they thought that this shit was worthy of berserk. at least bring in a director with experience with 3D. the only action series this guy has done to my knowledge was devil may cry which was okay. this series only just does the action to a passable degree but it doesnt capture the heart felt moments at all its below par for such a great manga

This is just my opinion, but Nina has to be one of the most obnoxious anime characters I've ever seen. Why is there so much screen time focused on her? She's just a complainer who serves no purpose. At best, I would call her a side character in the manga. And yet, there's barely any emphasis or explanation about the resurrection of Griffith, which is arguably one of the most important things that occurs in the series. I just think the director's priorities are all wrong. If someone hadn't previously read the manga, I'm sure they'd be confused as hell by the flurry of major events from the last few episodes. Berserk has a rich and complicated storyline, and deserves a production house with more experience. I thought the first Berserk anime from years ago did a much better job capturing the "mood" and "tone" of the series. Edit: Check out this reddit discussion on the Berserk anime. Jeez, and I thought I was salty about the show.. Seems that reactions are "mixed," to say the least. Lots of Nina discussion in that thread, and some solid arguments for her inclusion, too. But wait. Doth my nugs bequeath me? I just read that a new Berserk anime was confirmed for 2017. lol

So anybody reading the manga ?

I just think the director's priorities are all wrong. If someone hadn't previously read the manga, I'm sure they'd be confused as hell by the flurry of major events from the last few episodes. I've read the manga a number of times and I still had no idea what the fuck was happening in episode 12. Because this adaptation changed certain events earlier, I tried to watch out for such things so as to not get lost, but the narrative made no goddamn sense. Guts and Griffith themselves became super trivial in their own series and this bizarrely huge focus was shifted onto Nina, a minor arc character, solely because the director wanted some sort of moral ending which was totally bizarre and out of place. It served as a major 'conclusion' to the fucked narrative, which makes even less sense 10 seconds later, when you're told that this isn't the end and they're doing another series in Spring. Zodd just gets introduced as a character and then leaves over the course of ~30 seconds of screentime; they didn't even bother finding another sound effect for his wings - it's the same sound effect as the one used for his walking. Griffith's arrival and departure had no pretext whatsoever for it - it just happens, and then the series is over. A hypermassive army shows up right on top of the main characters in the last minutes, and this is not explored in any way. There was an omniscient narrator whom you would have expected to explain what was happening, but he literally just says semi-arbitrary lines from the manga that mean nothing to a viewer devoid of the manga's context. There was no reason for any event happening in the episode whatsoever; reason being a courtesy provided in even the worst of the other episodes. It's just as the Bard once said: I expect nothing and I'm still let down. The absolute worst part of the episode, and what made me laugh uncontrollably, completely destroying the solemnity of this supposedly super-important scene: "BLOOD AND GUTS AND GUTS AND BLOOD AND BLOOD AND ..."

I just read that a new Berserk anime was confirmed for 2017. lol Yeah watch it yesterday and it was pretty crap didnt like how the story was adapted i am up to date in the manga have been for ages and i had to go back and reread this arc to make sure that i didnt miss remember shit because of how different things were. the only thing i can say that i didnt hate was that it looks better then it did at the begining. also that nina shit is there in the manga it just sticks out more because there is less of the all the good shit like zodd and griffith. this anime has been sup par the whole way through it just doesnt capture the action or the heart that make berserk berserk. i am hoping that berserk anime gets better with the next season i heard that sailor moon crystal was crap for 2 seasons before a huge spike in quality for season 3 so we can only hope

Haha, I didn't even notice that about Zodd, that's hilarious! And I agree with your critique of the show, they just missed so many opportunities to make it polished, or, you know, good. In fact, the animators were too lazy to create individual people, so they used the magical powers of copy/paste to create an illusion of a large mob of people: For anybody curious, the horde of copy/paste men occurs during episode 12, at 2 minutes 40 seconds.
