I’ve lived in Japan for the last 10 years and not once I’ve bothered watching sumo though I have been interested in a casual level. Well, get to it. It's worth watching.

I wanted to kill myself when I saw Tochi's defeat - not because he lost, but because of how it happened it's made all the worse when you consider the Endou match which came prior It's almost like trading injustices or something; I wouldn't know what to call it

Welcome to the Kyushu Basho youtu.be/ieNwVhez6LgUnfortunately, there are already bad news. Kakuryu had to withdraw today due to a lumbar spine injury after morning practice this morning.

Tomokaze's knee injury was the scariest fucking thing I've seen in a while.

Day 5 youtu.be/eEK1hilEHAUThis is already turning into the saddest Basho. Wakatakakage is out due to an ankle injury (he didn't look good at all after winning yesterday's bout) and so is Tochinoshin, he is reportedly 'unable to stand up'.

Araiso-oyakata, the former Kisenosato, has been crushing Asayonama in their practices. It seems he's in much better shape. youtu.be/VkHsKyFuYSc

It fairly upsets me that nobody is willing to much discuss the concept, prospect of returning to sumo after an initial retirement. I mean, almost every sporting organization in the world - combat sport or otherwise - permits athletes to come back if they are still physically capable of performing. Why does the Sumo Association not make allowances for anything like that? It's certainly not a matter of ceremony or religion. Or would it be rather that, due to the lifestyle, Kisenosato should have no interest in returning even if they were to dangle an invitation?
There's even been [half-way serious] speculation in the Japanese media/fanbases that Kisenosato is, at present, the strongest that he's ever been as a rikishi. His injuries and deficiencies, formerly thought irreparable in a lifetime, seem to have in large part mended. What an odd, circuitous loss it will prove to the sport if he continues to perform at sekitori level exclusively in training and unregistered bouts for the next few years.

Hakuho out.
Greatest spectacle I've seen in a while with Enhou vs Tochinoshin.

I wonder if Kakuryu will pull out as well. He's not looking good at all.

Will Goeido suffer the same fate?
