How is this even a thing ? There's no way this is actually happening other than some dumb exhibition fight where neither fighter will be in shape and will just be there to collect their paycheck (even more than usual I mean).
I mean, seriously, what is this even about ? Is this a boxing match ? An MMA match ? Well Mayweather wins the boxing match and likely loses the MMA match. I don't get the whole attention about it. It's so vague and unspecific and pretty much bound to not happen, and even if it did, it wouldn't be a good fight.

A month or two ago I was of the opinion that there was .1% chance of this ever happening and it was mainly Floyd just being bored in retirement and wanting people to talk about him, but I'm up to 75% convinced that it is going to happen. There is enough ego all around that things could easily still go sour, but all the parties involved are talking like there is enough money for Floyd, McGregor, and Dana White though I have absolutely no fucking clue as to how that would be. Boxing fans aren't going to pay for that fight. MMA fans aren't going to pay for that fight. Unless there are casual people willing to pay what will likely be $100 for the spectacle, I expect whoever puts up the money for the guarantees is going to take a huge, huge loss.
I really hope this doesn't end up happening. Mayweather Pacquiao did huge damage to the sport of boxing and this fight might kill it for all but the most hardcore.

Is it really happening? I only thought it was only rumours that all the press and media were believing.

I'm gonna say the same thing I said about Mayweather vs Pacquiao : I'll believe it when they're both inside the ring and the bell has rung. Mayweather vs Pacquiao did happen eventually (although it happened a good two years after the huge enthusiasm around that fight had started to fade), but at least they were both boxers and it really made sense for them to fight given their careers.
Conor ? I seriously don't know. I mean, is the money even really there ? How does that work with the UFC ? In the past, they're pretty much treated any attempt by a fighter to fight in another promotion as cancer inducing. And in the end, yeah, maybe it will happen, but how long is it going to take ? And what's happening to Conor's belt in the meantime ? As for boxing, how does that work ? Is it an exhibition match like De La Hoya vs Shaq, or an actual real boxing match ?
In a way, unlike how it was with the Pacquiao fight, I guess Floyd doesn't really have anything to lose. McGregor has pretty much no chance to beat him whatsoever, so that's a point in favor of the fight happening I guess. Still, how many years until they actually agree on the money ?
But my main concern is about the UFC. McGregor can't force everyone to sit on their asses while waiting for him to secure his freakshow fight. He already got stripped of the featherweight belt because everybody figured he didn't care about defending it (and that the only sane pick for his first title defence was Frankie Edgar who had at least a 50/50 chance to wrestlefuck him for 5 rounds). I mean, considering how long it's going to take to secure that fight, unless Conor actually makes an effort to at least try to defend his belt, he's going to get stripped again, and where does Conor stand without the belt ? In the UFC he's a top contender. Outside ? Some loud Irish guy who helps selling T-Shirts ?

This is as ridiculous as Couture vs Toney in UFC. i'd be more convinced if this were under K-1 rules

I guess it would make the result less obvious, but it would make the fight even more unmakable, which would basically be like a division by zero. We might as well ask them to have a paint-ball match to determine who's the best if we're going that way.

Just lol at the idea of paying tons of money to watch Mayweather jog around the ring for 12 rounds.
At least we've got fighters like GGG, Joshua (an actually exciting heavyweight), Canelo, Ward, and Lomachenko. The sport isn't dead just yet.

Canelo is a giant fucking coward and only agreed to fight GGG because he thought he looked bad in his last outing. His fight with Chavez JR was a much of a joke as this fight will end up.

You made a point about the judges having heavy Canelo-bias, do you still believe GGG requires the KO to win? GGG is capable of it, without a doubt. That's a match I want to see. Couldn't care less about Mayweather, though.

Couldn't care less about Mayweather, though. I'm sure De La Hoya will assemble the finest set of judges (The one who scored the Mayweather fight a draw, the one who scored the Lara fight 117-111 to Canelo, and the one who scored the Cotto fight 119-109 for Canelo.) and get a ref who makes the one from Elliot vs. Volg seem good. If GGG wants to win, I think he literally has to knock Canelo out.

I still have the feeling there is a strong chance this will fall through. Last Mayweather fight (I think the one after Pacquiao) put me to sleep, literally; so I am not precisely look forward to this.

I just only hope midfight McGregor forgets it's a boxing match.
