I'm... intrigued. They seem to be taking risks displacing AnI into what looks like 90s Brooklyn. It's probably current Japan, actually, but whatever.
TMS entertainment's doing it. They're the studio that made the Ashita No Joe 2 Anime back in the days, so the reason they're doing is probably just cause they got the rights. They apparently made a few classic series a while ago, but for their more recent stuff, I don't think I've seen any of it.

TMS is also doing Baki... 2018's shaping up to be an interesting year, or a terrible year.
Anyway, did anyone else notice that the summary makes Megalobox sound rather like a boxing version of Redline? JD (JP) participates in match fixing in order to live (to stay out of prison), until he gets an unexpected chance to take on a challenge that risks everything (Redline).
Either way, it sounds really interesting; I wonder if CR or anybody else will pick up the rights. And, I'm also curious as to what it means by 'inspired by' Ashita no Joe. Does it take place in the same world? Or is that just a namedrop in order to establish some sort of hype for the series, and it'll be totally unrelated (beyond being boxing)?

It's looking less and less like Ashita no Joe. Looks more like some kind of robot boxing in Mega City One. Still really intrigued, this is either going to be a bold reinterpretation of a classic, or a really terrible show.

After Joe is in a slump due to Rikiishi's death, he participates in these fix matches. I wonder if it has anything to do with that part of the storyline?

Well I totally called it.
I dunno. The robot arm thingie feels completely unnecessary and looks kinda silly if you ask me. I don't have high hopes for this based on the trailer, but to be fair, it doesn't show anything. It just makes me fear it's just taking the Ashita no Joe theme to do some shallow fighting anime. The visuals aren't bad, but I expected something more daring from the promo pictures. Right now, it looks like a cleaner version of 1970s anime styles. And finally, why does Yabuki have an afro ? Like, really, his hair is basically the most iconic thing about his appearance, why change that ? The only character I'm satisfied with is Yokou who looks really good. Rikishi's okay, but he looks kind of generic, and Danpei somehow doesn't look quite as ugly as I feel he should.
Yeah, I'm not gonna hold my breath here, frankly. I'll probably watch it, because when else are we gonna get a new version of AnJ, but if this anime has anything really good to offer, it doesn't really show in the trailer.

Uh, why did they have to go with the dumb augmented boxing?

Well, it seems that its just a series meant to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ashita no Joe, but why not just do a remake like Yamato is doing? Or in the same way that Ushio to Tora has? Why make something unrelated to Ashita no Joe? I don't want boxing mixed with the visuals of Votoms even though I love both Ashita no Joe and Votoms.

Yeah, I don't get the idea here. Now, well, I understand the need to reinterpret it. Ashita no Joe is a product of its time, it doesn't mean anything unless you consider it's about the dark side of the Japanese economic miracle. It's basically a period piece, and it would be interesting to refit it to current Japan.
But then, they go the weird scifi route with Tokyo in the middle of the Mojave Desert or whatever, and I'm really not sure what the point is here. Plus the boxing gears look silly.
